Greetings! Welcome to my Internet Office -- Thank you for stopping by!

I am Dr. Marlene Shiple, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.  In addition, I am certified as a Hypnotherapist and a Sex Therapist/Sex Counselor.  In the 35 years that I have been a mental-health practitioner, I have helped clients to deal effectively with anxiety disorders and to make their lives better and happier.

I work in traditional forms of psychotherapy, utilizing a cognitive-behavioral orientation. In addition, I am a personal life coach, an EMDR therapist & a clinical hypnotherapist.  I work in practical, behavior-based directions to facilitate rapid goal-achievement.  My style is positive, supportive and encouraging.

Most of us know what it's like to feel anxious -- the queasiness in the stomach before getting up to give a speech or before a first date, the pounding of the heart before an exam or when one is in danger, the physical tension when someone is angry with you.  In these situations, to provide a way to better face the threat, anxiety can serve to rouse you to action.  For example, it can impel you to study harder for that exam, to be better prepared for the speech, to be more diplomatic in dealing with others.

In other words, anxiety can HELP you to cope.

However, if you experience one of the types of anxiety disorder, what was normally a helpful emotion becomes something very different.  When experiencing an anxiety disorder, the anxiety can disrupt your life and prevent you from coping effectively.

An anxiety disorder can leave you feeling anxious most of the time, with no apparent reason.  You can feel so uncomfortable in response to the anxiety disorder that -- to avoid the discomfort -- you stop some activities altogether.  Or you might have bouts of anxiety that are so intense that they immobilize you.

In my years of counseling clients, I have frequently found that, while these anxiety disorders are quite common, they are also -- regrettably -- often, misunderstood ... even by the person experiencing the condition.  It has been my experience that many people think that individuals should be able by sheer will power to overcome the anxiety symptoms.  This is an unrealistic expectation!  And, like most unrealistic expectations, it is inclined to fail.  However, when the anxious person cannot overcome anxiety symptoms by will power, this can lead him or her to feelings of inadequacy and (self) reproach.

When anxiety disorders interfere with your life, treatment can help!  There are treatments that WORK to help you with anxiety disorders.

Areas in which I have expertise include:

Personal Growth:  eliminating negative thinking; self-esteem; removing     blocks from the past; spiritual focus; meditation; self-hypnosis.

Relationships:  sex therapist concerns; sexual dysfunction; marriage or     partner issues; family interactions.

Health Issues:  impact of chronic illness; pain management; issues of
acute illness; stress management; PTSD (post traumatic stress

disorder); spiritual dis-ease; fatigue or low energy (non-physical in o
rigin).

Life Functioning:  anxiety; fear; panic; depression.

Habit change:  compulsive behavior; obsessive thinking; addiction and     addictive behavior; smoking cessation; weight management.

I want YOU to be a SUCCESS!  I eagerly use expertise, training and experience   to that end.  We can use a variety of modalities -- secure email, secure chat, or telephone.   It's your choice!
